    The Hobbit is one of my favourite books – I loved it as a kid (my 1973 copy of the Allen & Unwin paperback is VERY well worn…). But it speaks to adults too. I must re-read it. I must admit, I had very high hopes when Jackson made the movies (all in and around where I live – I recall flying out of Wellington airport one time and getting a very good view of the Dale set as the plane climbed). Those hopes were dashed when it came out… but maybe one day, someone’ll do the book justice.

    I had high hopes of the Hobbit movies as well, although more because of the involvement of various Weta folks. I’ve decided I don’t particularly care about Jackson’s way of telling stories; also it sounds like there was way too much studio meddling around the production. Too bad. Like you say, maybe some day.

    I have to say, I’m a bit envious of your proximity to the filming. 🙂
